P5 Studio X Montana Furniture Collaboration in Singapore

We bring you a truly outstanding collaboration/project DIRECT from Singapore where we’ve travelled to a lot, we’re so overwhelmed by  so many facets of the project, let’s just dive straight in. Singapore based P5 Studio and Danish furniture brand Montana partner with 8 Singaporean design and architecture practices to launch 8 new furniture designs via a competition called FREEPLAY – VOL. 1. where the 8 designs will retail exclusively at P5 Studio.

On one hand, you’ve got P5 Studio which houses a portfolio of in vogue and progressive furniture brands such as Stellar Works, Saba Italia, Bolzan Letti, Carl Hansen, Frag, Maiori, Montana and many more. Besides offering one-stop residential, commercial and hospitality furnishing solutions, P5 Studio is also a space for creatives to collaborate. P5 Studio’s vision is to continually curate an eclectic blend of cult furnishing brands which are niche yet versatile with affordable luxury at the centre of its ethos.

On the other hand, there’s Danish Montana Furniture, a family-owned company, established in 1982, a world leader in storage and furniture for private homes and contemporary office spaces. Montana’s flexible, modular system features an inspiring colour palette and is manufactured at Montana’s own factory in Denmark. The system offers infinite opportunities and freedom to curate spaces in the ultimate personal way. Montana also offers table- and chair series designed by Arne Jacobsen, Verner Panton, Stefan Wewerka, Peter Lassen, Joakim Lassen, schmidt hammer lassen design and Salto & Sigsgaard. In short, a Danish heavyweight brand.

When these 2 separate entities, P5 Studio and Montana – to defy geographical distance – meet for a collaboration, a explosion of design excellence is to be expected. Looking at the 8 designs created for FREEPLAY VOL. 1. below, we think you’ll agree.

Also conceived as a design competition, the winning design at FREEPLAY Vol.1. in Singapore will square off with the winning designs from Korea, Japan, China, Taiwan, Philippines, and Australia at the 2020 – 3daysofdesign festival in Denmark. A design jury consisting of Montana’s CEO, Joakim Larsen, Director of Sales & Marketing, Hans Lindeberg, and Architect and Head of Spatial Design, Helena Lauren will select each local winner and one regional winner base on a storage solution that is adaptable, multi-functional, sustainable, and with high aesthetic value. The regional winning design will be included in the Montana International Collection.

The winning design among the 8 local design and architectural practices will be announced on 24th January 2019 at the FREEPLAY industry event at P5 Studio, Singapore.

The photography locations were curated by Studio Periphery and P5 Studio based on the concept and story of each designer’s piece thereby allowing storyboard descriptions. Each shot frames the product as the centre of attention against recognizable backdrops and architectural archetypes synonymous with Singapore. Montana’s free-flowing colours and modules, and infinite possibilities are juxtaposed against rustic and rugged environs which localizes the context of FREEPLAY – Vol. 1. Due to the contrasting backdrops; the colours, depths, details, and character of each piece are vigorously accentuated. FREEPLAY’s outdoor photography also adds a playful twist to Montana’s usual interior photography by allowing patrons and readers to view each design’s function from a subtle and abstract standpoint.

We would like to thank Terence Choo, the marketing and PR manager for P5 Studio for sharing this truly brilliant project with us from Singapore. It’s a project that has the whiff of the success of collaborative and creative genius coming together. There’s so much style that’s almost visually hard to bear, but also solid foundations of substance. In short, the kind of project we wished we were involved in! Congratulations to all party involved, the results are there for all to see.

P5 Studio is located at 213 Henderson Road, #01-08 Henderson Industrial Park, Singapore 159533
