Mexican retro: Hotel Jesus on Smith Street Collingwood

We’ve always picked up so much inspiration from our travels, so it’s a nice change when a restaurant right at home in Melbourne has captured all the buzz, energy and flair of a country far away such as Mexico. Welcome Hotel Jesus, located on the hip thoroughfare of Collingwood. Located in a heritage building, we stepped in and were just completely blown away by the interiors. Check out the images below, you’ll understand why.

You can throw so many descriptions at the space. It’s part retro, vintage, old school meets kitsch but 100% Mexican. All the design details of the restaurant, there is so much for the design and interiors die hard fan to not blink.

The turquoise and red colour scheme, the stripes, the mesh partition, the very old school tiles, the Mexicana memorabilia, the light boxes, they all come together to form a space that’s just so lively and so much fun, somewhere you can bring more than just your three amigos.

Of course, you can expect the usual Mexican favourites in terms of their menu, but their weekly happy hour, with their half price beer and sangria, from Wednesday to Friday, 4pm – 6pm should be a winner with locals.

Above, you can see our Creative Director having a really good tucker on a summer afternoon. We’re so jealous, possibly the location for our next office lunch, or Friday night work drinks? Get our hint, Mr Chia?

Hotel Jesus is located at 174 Smith St, Collingwood VIC 3066. Check out their lovely Instagram page to see more of their food selection and interiors at
