L’oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival 2012: The Hits and Misses

We attended Runway Show 6 presented by Madison magazine during the recent L’oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival 2012 and here’s what we really thought about the event:

The Hits

  • The generous amount of L’oreal cosmetics in the goody bag
  • The use of everyday people (albeit good looking ones) instead of models to front the marketing campaign – the fashion festival is targeting the masses so it’s great to see the festival use faces that the masses can better identify with
  • The Docklands location is always a winner, you can’t beat the view of the Melbourne sunset after you leave the 7pm runway show
  • Watching beauty brought to life on the runways. The delectable clothes, the immaculate hair, makeup and the models, what’s there not to like (see runway pictures below)
  • Seeing Melbourne folk put on their fashionable best to attend the runway shows

The Misses

  • Seeing Melbourne folk fail miserably at putting on their fashionable best (Spotted: thunder thighs, mini-skirts and platform shoes)
  • The lack of air-conditioning in the runway show venue, as we went on a slighty warm day so some people were fanning themselves using the festival program
  • The goody bag which was made of polyurethane, was about A4 size and not very roomy, which meant that the bag won’t have much use beyond the festival. More thought could have gone into the design of the bag so that it can be reused for another purpose. For example, if the goody bag was designed with an envelope flap without the handles, then it could be used to hold an iPod, laptop or serve as a document holder and even a clutch bag, and these options would be way more “fashionable” than a standard tote as goody bag.

P.S. Many thanks to Mai Chau for supplying us the beautiful images below and for getting us the lovely VIP passes.
